The purpose of the project is to improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians traveling along Seckman Road through a portion of Mastodon State Park. Currently, there are no shoulders on this stretch of Seckman Road throughout Mastodon State Park. With steep slopes, drop offs, and not having shoulders, it makes it very dangerous for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists to travel on Seckman Road to access the State Park. There have been many accidents, including numerous severe and even a few fatalities, that have occurred along this stretch of Seckman Road.
There are multiple safety improvements that we have proposed for this project. These improvements include but are not limited to, Re-aligning portions of Seckman Road with a new horizontal and vertical alignment to provide for adequate sight distances at the State Park entrance, adding 8' paved shoulders to the South Side of Seckman Road, while also adding curb and gutter sections on the North Side of Seckman Road, along with adding a closed drainage system. New striping and signage are also included within the project. This project will allow for connectivity between the many nearby subdivisions to access the Mastodon State Park amenities. The total project length is 0.56 Miles.
This public notification is for the virtual public hearing regarding public comment on the proposed project. The Virtual (Zoom) Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 10th from 4-7 pm.
