Notice of Public Open House Meeting - Gravois Northwest School Improvement

Tuesday, September 27, 2022

Currently, Gravois Road is a two-lane road that consists of two twelve-foot lanes and 5-foot shoulders with no sidewalks. Within a 5-year window (2013-2017) there have been 30 accidents within the school project limits, with the majority of crashes being rear-end crashes, with low light conditions. After identifying the cluster of crashes within the project limits, it has been noted that the average 85th percentile speed through the school zone has been 43 MPH where the posted speed limit is 35 MPH. The proposed plan for this section of Gravois Road is to decrease the lane widths from 12' to 11’ and add a Two Way Left Turn Lane (TWLTL) through the project limits for motorists turning into the neighboring subdivisions and two schools. The new roadway will incorporate adding in an 8' shared use path on the East side of the roadway that incorporates street scape lighting throughout the project. The shared use path will provide direct connectivity from the two school campuses, the adjacent bus garage, the neighboring subdivisions and church. With the addition of shared use path, one set of Pedestrian Push Button Actuators will be incorporated on the North end of the Project Limits where pedestrians can cross Gravois Road. 5' Sidewalks will also be added adjacent to the Northwest Valley Middle School providing inner-connectivity to the shared use path. LED Pedestrian Lighting will be added along the south side of the Shared Use path providing lighting for the pedestrians and the traveling motorists. The LED Light fixtures will be approx. 17' tall with a single overhead LED.  The addition of closed drainage will keep all water within County Right of Way and will be discharged appropriately. The addition of curb and gutter, new striping, new signage will also be included within the project. Since this project is also focused on preservative treatments, the proposed project will have transitional cold milling, and will utilize a 3/4" Ultra-thin bonded Nova-Chip pavement to preserve the existing pavement to prevent further deterioration.

Tentative schedules for right of way acquisition and construction can be discussed at the hearing.
